Phoenix mobilizes m/v anne candies for air france flight 447 search

Thursday, March 4, 2010 -- Washington, DC -- Phoenix International Holdings, Inc. (Phoenix) announced the charter of its M/V Anne Candies by the Bureau d’Enquetes et d’Analyses (BEA).  BEA is the French air safety investigation agency responsible for investigating the loss of Air France Flight 447 (AF447) which had departed Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for Paris, France on June 1, 2009 when it was inexplicably lost over the Atlantic Ocean.

M/V Anne Candies is being mobilizing in Houma, LA where deep ocean search and recovery equipment owned by the U.S. Navy’s Office of the Supervisor of Salvage and Diving (SUPSALV) is being installed in preparation for this year’s phase of the search effort.  The equipment, consisting of a side scan sonar for search and an ROV for the recovery, is rated for work in water depths of 6,000 msw.  The systems will be operated by a team of Phoenix personnel with extensive international experience conducting deep ocean search and recovery operations.  Upon completion of the mobilization, M/V Anne Candies will depart for Brazil and the remote search area to begin what can be a 1-2 month operation.

Earlier searches for AF447 failed to locate the wreckage, and this year’s multi-ship efforts will include state-of-the-art search technology.  The search will cover a large area of interest, and one known for its rugged terrain.  As in prior searches, this year’s international safety investigation is led by BEA who will be responsible for all aspects of communications.  Once the operation is underway, BEA’s website (www.bea.aero) will provide details about the search effort in weekly posted updates.
